What Happened When We Tried IV Hydration for Jet Lag

IV hydration

MediDuce Wellness (IG@mediduce_wellness) is a Michigan-based business specializing in wellness & holistic lifestyle. They offer drips geared toward our friends that are feeling hungover after a great night, for expecting moms, for GI bugs, and other wellness minded options. MediDuce also offers intramuscular vitamin injections as another option! If you want to dive deeper into your wellness, they also offer weight-loss services both in person and virtually. They are located in Troy, Michigan on Rochester Road just north of E. Big Beaver Rd.

Why we like IV hydration after a trip

MediDuce can tailor an IV drip to your needs!

Why do we love this? As nurses, we know how much a flight can wreck havoc on the body. As (thrifty) jetsetters, we don’t want to lose valuable PTO (paid time off, aka vacation days) due to illness.

In a plane the air is dry, causing our eyes, our skin and our airways to feel irritated. We never drink enough water in fear of having to disturb our seat mates to get up to pee! We’re pretty sure Deb has a lip balm from almost every country we’ve traveled to due to dry lips on Every. Single. Flight.

On top of that, there is ALWAYS someone coughing and hacking on the flight, providing an extra souvenir from the trip, a viral infection. Our muscles cramp up, our digestion slows down, and we’re beat when we land. We arrive with memories of exciting adventures that we can’t wait to share… after we’ve slept for 18 hours.

Our recent experience

After an exciting visit to Berlin & Prague, we had been feeling pretty drained, so we visited our friends at Mediduce Wellness for some IV vitamins & hydration! Having some errands to run in that area, we opted for an in-office visit instead of the Mobile IV therapy.

inside we were greeted by the nurse practitioner, Ashley. We filled out our health questionnaires online ahead of time, to ensure that we were good candidates for IV hydration and vitamin therapy.

Ashley recommended for the LIVV drip, an immunity booster drip that includes Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and a Vitamin B complex. We added toradol onto our drips to help with our post flight aches & pains.

the poke and the drip

After getting comfortable, Ashley started our IVs. Ashley has ER experience, so her IV starting skills were spot on and painless. She mixed our drips and set them up to run. The fluids took about a half hour to run in, as Jeremy and I both have great antecubital (aka the “elbow bend”) veins, and this was our spot of choice.

feeling rejuvenated

Ashley did an amazing job starting our IVs & we enjoyed our conversation with her while we received our infusions. Feeling refreshed and rejuvenated from our infusions, we headed to REI for some outdoor gear for our next travel adventure.
