10 Awesome Gluten-free Options in Paris

Burger and Fries

There are so many gluten-free options in Paris it can be mind blowing. Eating gluten free in the city of light is a breeze! there is no need to sacrifice and eat boring food.

As a person with symptomatic celiac disease, it is important to plan out my food options before I travel. In Europe I’ve found it to be much easier than anywhere else in the world. That being said, I found Paris is a gluten free paradise!

Bread! So many delectable “bread-y” choices!

Copains

Copains is a dedicated gluten free bakery with multiple locations in Paris. They a massive fresh selection of baked goods. They even offer a few sandwiches. My personal favorite is their pain au chocolat. Caution: there were bees in the shop. They are harmless, but if you’re allergic be careful.

Yummy and Guiltfree

Yummy and Guiltfree is a dedicated gluten free waffle shop. These waffles are absolutely incredible & offer a different experience than the traditional waffle. Y & G has a variety of both staple and seasonal selections. They offer something for everyone with their wide variety of savory and sweet options.

Lou Lou

Lou Lou is probably my favorite restaurant in Paris. While not a dedicated GF restaurant, they are very knowledgeable, have a wide variety of GF options, & take precautions to prevent cross contamination. My first time there, our server offered that she also had celiac disease & gave me her personal recommendations. She also made me a list of her favorite places around Paris. Their bacon cheese burger is out of this world good compared the over-processed junk I’m used to in the US. They also have an incredible gluten free fish & chips option. Lou Lou was a must after our lightning speed 18 hour layover in Paris (in which we got engaged!).

La Petite Bouclerie

One of our other frequent haunts when we visit Paris is La Petite Bouclerie. La Petite Bouclerie is a hole in the wall style crepe spot. We visited there on our first trip in Paris as well as our 18 hour whirlwind layover. This was the first place we thought of after a long day of travel from Marrekesh. La Petite Bouclerie is not dedicated GF, but they have a huge selection of gluten free galettes (buckwheat crepes) & take precautions to prevent cross contamination. Their menu includes a variety of both sweet and savory options.

Ladurée

Yes, THAT Ladurée, that Blair Waldorf was obsessed with in the 2000s hit series, Gossip Girl. While not dedicated gluten free, Ladurée offers a wide variety of gluten free options of macaroons. My personal favorite is the Marie-Antoinette Tea macaron which is infused with tea. This famed macaron shop has locations throughout the city of lights including a location at Charles-De-Gualle airport, convenient for last minute gifts or snacks for the plane.

Tasca

Tasca is a dedicated gluten free Italian restaurant located right around the corner from the Eiffel tower. Being dedicated gluten-free, hey have a wide variety of options on the menu. It was so nice to be able to enjoy bread at the table, a luxury that us celiacs do not often get! The food was delicious.

Crepêrie Marie Madeline

Crepêrie Marie Madeline was a great option right around the corner from our Airbnb. We opted to order inside instead of the takeaway area. We enjoyed delicious gluten free buckwheat galettes. Our server was knowledgeable & we were able to choose from a variety of both sweet and savory options.

O’scià Pizzaria Napoletana

O’scià was our saving grace for a “late night” snack. This pizzeria offered a delicious gluten free Neapolitan style pizza. It was really cool being able to enjoy a Neapolitan style pizza, which was a huge change of pace from the Udi’s crust that is widely offered in the US. We found this spot a few blocks away from our Airbnb & had a great experience.

Restaurant Auguste

Restaurant Auguste is a modern, contemporary Michelin starred restaurant that was able to accommodate my gluten free diet. My husband and I had a lovely multi-course meal, brilliantly paired with a diverse wine selection. My meal had a few noticeable differences from my husband’s meal, but the quality and quantity remained consistent with his, indicating to me that my needs were taken seriously. This meal was absolutely magnificent & the wine pairings were inspired. Jeremy added: yes, there are foamy appetizers and other frou frou plates that seem small and pretentious, but we left completely satisfied. There’s something to be said for well crafted, thought out menus.

NOTE: You may need to make reservations far ahead of time. If you choose a 7:30pm dinner time you may have a better chance of getting a seat. Usually only Americans eat that early.

Make sure to email the restaurant ahead and let them know you have a gluten allergy. They are very good at what they do and had no problem accommodating me.

La Crème de Paris

La Crème de Paris was a cute spot resembling an ice cream shop. I enjoyed a delicious and filling egg, ham, and cheese buckwheat crepe paired with a cup of tea as we made our way back to the airport from the city of lights.

Bonus option

Recently we were back in Pairs and had the chance to try the Steak Frites at Le Relais De L’Entrecote. per their website “The Relais de l’Entrecôte owes its reputation to its single course menu: a walnut salad followed by an extra tender sirloin steak with its famous secret sauce, and delicious home-made french fries.”

There was a wait outside, but it moved quickly. when you only serve one thing, efficiency ensues. Once seated the waitress asks how we want our steak. Deb tries to tell her she has celiac disease, but the waitress says something in a French/English combo implying “it’s fine” and leaves. she brings back salads for us both and Bread that she puts on Jeremys side of the table. Deb left the salad untouched as she could not confirm the ingredients in the dressing.

We had read both good and bad about the secret sauce, but Deb decided to take a chance on it. we can say with 100% accuracy that Deb felt no symptoms after our meal.

Conclusion

Eating Gluten-free while traveling can be stressful and require a lot of planning. Paris was a wonderful exception! I have found that not only is eating Glute-free in Paris easy, it’s also Fantastically enjoyable.
